Fieldwork

Find patterns. Inspect the evidence. Choose your next question.

Fieldwork helps researchers understand unfamiliar pandas dataframes. Discover which fields appear together, identify repeated entities and mappings, inspect the rows behind exceptions, and choose a useful order for browsing a census.

Availability in a small research dataset

  1. Orient: call explore(df) for availability patterns, candidate grains and census suggestions.
  2. Choose: select a family, mapping or browsing path.
  3. Inspect: retrieve example and exception rows, including frames with duplicate indexes.
  4. Refine: select a scope or compare contexts.
  5. Save: export evidence and reapply a recipe to a later delivery.

Begin with the first investigation, then inspect an exception. Read measurement definitions when interpreting support and populations, or use the API reference for exact options.
